International Kent Hospital: Hip and knee replacement, spinal surgery in Turkey

Kent Hospital logo

Kent Hospital in Karşıyaka in Turkey, is just 30km from nearby Izmir airport. The hospital has specialised medical staff serving all branches of medicine working with the latest techonology for diagnosis and treatment.

Kent Hospital is a fully-equipped medical complex, one of the largest and most modern hospitals in South Eastern Europe. It is built according to American Institute of Architects' guidelines. The world famous Mayo Clinic provided consultancy on facility design, medical guidelines and administrative protocols which enabled the hospital to provide high quality medical care from the day it opened in 2004.

Kent Hospital was accredited by the Joint Commission International in 2006, which is the most influential non-governmental regulatory body in the world which assesses hospital facilities. Achieving JCI accreditation is a rigorous process repeated every three years, and requires supreme dedication and commitment by both administrative and clinical staff.

The hospital provides state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment services with excellent doctors who have international expertise and fine reputations. Modern technology is utilised by the hospital to ensure optimal care and patient safety. For example, an online system allows doctors to access laboratory and radiology images from anywhere in the world. Diagnostic images from radiology, coronary angiography, nuclear medicine and bone densitometry are archived digitally and made available for use within the hospital, as well as to local and international medical practitioners, while maintaining patient confidentiality.

Orthopaedic surgery at Kent Hospital

Kent Hospital Turkey orthopaedic surgery

The following orthopaedic surgery procedures are available at Kent Hospital:

Hip replacement - The hip is one of the body's largest weight-bearing joints. It consists of two main parts: a ball (femoral head) at the top of your thighbone (femur) that fits into a rounded socket (acetabulum) in your pelvis. Bands of tissue called ligaments (hip capsule) connect the ball to the socket and provide stability to the joint.

Most people who undergo hip replacement surgery experience a dramatic reduction of hip pain and a significant improvement in their ability to perform the common activities of daily living. However, hip replacement surgery will not enable you to do more than you could before your hip problem developed.

Knee replacement - The knee is the largest joint in the body. Normal knee function is required to perform most everyday activities. The knee is made up of the lower end of the thighbone (femur), which rotates on the upper end of the shin bone (tibia), and the kneecap (patella), which slides in a groove on the end of the femur. Large ligaments attach to the femur and tibia to provide stability. The long thigh muscles give the knee strength.

More than 90% of individuals who undergo total knee replacement experience a dramatic reduction of knee pain and a significant improvement in the ability to perform common activities of daily living. But total knee replacement will not make you a super-athlete or allow you to do more than you could before you developed arthritis.

Spinal fusion - Spinal fusion is a surgical procedure used to correct problems with the bones (vertebrae) of the back (spine). The spine is stabilised by fusing together two or more vertebrae, using bone grafts and metal rods and screws.

Spinal fusion is used to treat:

  • Injuries to spinal vertebrae

  • Protrusion and degeneration of the cushioning disk between vertebrae (sometimes called slipped disk or herniated disk)

  • Abnormal curvatures of the spine (such as scoliosis or kyphosis)

  • Weak or unstable spine caused by infections or tumors

Other orthopaedic surgery procedures

  • Hand surgery

  • Foot & ankle surgery

  • Sports surgery and traumatology

  • Shoulder and elbow surgery
